Research and Development of Highlanders Rainbow Rice

 

Introduction
In today’s society, heavy burdens from the rapidly changing world often seem to weigh down heavily on our shoulders. The quote “The greatest wealth is health” would stand very true; hence, we as city dwellers often go in search of healthier products. To meet the needs of the people, Highlanders International Pte Ltd, together with 3 students from the School of Chemical & Life Sciences of Singapore Polytechnic, came together to develop a healthy meal that is easy to cook and is suitable for all.

 

The Process
Through consuming a variety of food containing various natural colours, we would be provided with the appropriate amount of nutrients for our daily needs. However, it is difficult to obtain a homogenous mixture out of the various different ingredients of different texture and attributes. Another challenge for the research team is to ensure the mixture could be cooked easily and quickly within 20 minutes.

 

Sweet Victory
After 6 long months of sweat and labour, the one and only Highlanders Rainbow Rice was final born in Singapore. The research team went on to clinch the Grand Winner of the Food Product Development Competition 2007 organised by the Singapore Food Manufacturers’ Association in November 2007 with Highlanders Rainbow Rice.
